PRESCOTT, Ariz. – The (RV) EOU men's wrestling team showed nice production from its upper weights Friday night scoring two victories, but ultimately fell to Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), 24-9.
"We were in all of our matches tonight but fell short because of our mat wrestling," said head coach
Dustyn Azure. "We need to get back to the drawing board and fight with our hands from the bottom position more."
The lone victories Friday night were highlighted by senior wrestler
Pancho Saldana (184) and junior wrestler
Eric Fan (285).
Saldana defeated Embry-Riddle's Taylor Damico via pin fall to score six team points for the Mountaineers, breaking the 21-0 deficit held by the Eagles. Two matches later and the last one of the evening, Fan answered for the Blue and Gold with an 8-4 decision over David Rupp, but it was too late as the Eagles came out on top, 24-9.
EOU returns to action on Jan. 20 to face North Idaho College at home. The dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
