No. 6 EOU Volleyball Uses Total-Team Effort, Sweeps Walla Walla

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – All 14 members of the No. 6 EOU volleyball team saw action on Tuesday night, and the Mountaineers breezed their way to three-set (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) victory over Walla Walla in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) play.

EOU (9-1, 2-0 CCC), which matched its highest ranking in program history on Tuesday, collected its ninth-straight victory and eighth-consecutive sweep. The Blue and Gold held Walla Walla (0-2, 0-2 CCC) to a negative .116 clip and owned a 50-22 edge in kills.

Both junior middle hitter Emily Nay and senior hitter Makayla Lindburg tallied six kills apiece, while freshman hitter Megan Bunn added five kills. Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain mustered her third double-double of the season with 34 assists and 10 digs, both match-high efforts.

Trailing 6-5 in the first set, EOU used a kill by junior outside hitter Amanda Miller to spark a 12-0 run and snag an 11-point (17-6) lead. Junior hitter Madisen Garlie hammered one down, and Walla Walla coughed up two attack errors to lift EOU to set point (24-10). Following a sideout, Garlie rose for the solo block to seal the first set.

Once again, a pesky Walla Walla squad found itself an early advantage, crawling to an 8-5 lead. Senior middle hitter Kasaundra Tuma pounded one into the hardwood, and then Lindburg served up an ace to kickstart a 16-10 burst to reach set point (24-15). The Wolves fired back with a block assist, but Bunn closed the stanza with a powerful kill to make it a 2-0 match.

In the third set, EOU posted 10 of the first 16 points before Walla Walla scrambled with a 9-3 run to muster a two-point (15-13) lead. That's when sophomore middle hitter Olivia Starks and Nay combined for six kills amidst a 10-4 run to cap the match, and EOU reeled in another straight-set triumph.
