HELENA, Mont. – The EOU men's soccer team posted its third shutout of the season behind an early goal from junior forward
Julian Wells and a solid performance in the box by senior keeper
Alfredo Lara, as the Blue and Gold blanked Carroll, 1-0, Thursday afternoon.
"It was a physical battle against a very strong Carroll team," said head coach
Stan Rodrigues. "I am extremely proud of my team for stepping up and scoring a quality goal off a turnover and then playing as hard as they did."
At the third minute mark, the Mountaineers (6-1-1, 1-1-1 CCC) caught a break as the Carroll (3-4, 1-2 CCC) defense missed a clearance that went straight to Wells, who curled it over the keeper's head to tally his fourth goal of the season.
Meanwhile, Lara came up big with three first-half saves, finishing in total with four, as he earned his first clean sheet of the 2016 campaign.
Freshman midfielder
Jorge Chavez had a strong performance today posting two shots, including one on frame.
"
Jorge Chavez was a solid player for us today and
Alfredo Lara was as good as well," said Rodrigues.
