EOU Men’s Soccer Topples Saint Katherine in Season Opener, 6-0

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Transfers Julian Wells and Tyler Hoiem netted two goals apiece, and the EOU men's soccer team eased its way to a 6-0 triumph over Saint Katherine on Thursday afternoon.

EOU (1-0) simply dominated on the offensive end, outshooting Saint Katherine (0-2), 31-2, including 18-1 on goal. The Blue and Gold also recorded eight corner kicks to the one of the Firebirds.

While Hoiem and Wells combined for four goals, senior midfielder Cristian Anguiano and sophomore midfielder Steven Beaudry also struck for the Mountaineers.

Anguiano sparked the scoring for EOU in the 9th minute, as he beat a couple of defenders before sending it past Firebird keeper Ricky Vazquez.

In the latter part of the first stanza, Hoiem posted two more goals for the Blue and Gold to extend the lead to three. In the 28th minute, freshman midfielder Taylor Willman played a ball to Hoiem for the finish, and then Hoiem capitalized again with a through ball from junior defender Carlos Peregrina.

EOU showed no signs of slowing down in the second half, as Wells netted two goals in a 47-second span of the 53rd minute to put the game out of reach at 5-nil.

With nearly 14 minutes remaining in the contest, freshman forward Oscar Munoz made a nice dish to Beaudry for the final goal of the game, capping the 6-0 triumph.

Senior keeper Alfredo Lara tallied the only save of the game for EOU, while sophomore Aidan Wright kept a clean slate in the box as well.
