Senior guard Bryan McGriff was unstoppable, posting 27 points on 9-for-15 shooting, to go along with 13 rebounds. Freshman sharpshooter Max McCullough was just as stout, tallying 25 points and six three's. In addition, senior guard Kentrell Washington added 15 points and six boards. McCullough netted nine of the Mountaineers' first 14 points, helping the squad build an eight-point (14-6) cushion nearly five minutes in. College of Idaho responded with a 19-4 run to go up by seven (25-18) thanks to some sharp perimeter shooting, and the Yotes led by as many as 13 (45-32) before McCullough carded a triple and layup to cut the deficit to eight (45-37) at halftime. After falling down by 12 (52-40) to open the second stanza, McCullough and McGriff brought the Blue and Gold back in it, booking eight points to spark an 11-4 run capped by a three-pointer from junior guard Matt Wong. The Mountaineers (8-2, 1-0 CCC) ultimately cut the deficit to five (67-62) after another three by McCullough at the 8:30 mark, but the Yotes fired back with a 12-7 burst to stretch the margin back to 10 (79-69) after Aziz Leeks netted a jumper. Four points by McGriff and three free throws by Washington ignited a 7-0 run to slice the deficit to three (79-76), and then McGriff nailed two more freebees to make it a one-point (79-78) game with just over a minute remaining. EOU notched a critical defensive stop thanks to a block by McGriff, who later came down and drew contact on a jumper and converted a three-point play to grant the Mountaineers their first lead (81-79) since the 11:43 mark of the first half. College of Idaho had a look at a three-pointer on the next play before missing the front-end of a one-and-one, and McGriff swooshed a pair of free throws with five seconds left to seal it. Roosevelt Adams led four Yotes (7-3, 0-1 CCC) in double figures with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench.
