No. 7 EOU Volleyball Set to Host CCC Tourney

LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the third consecutive year, the final two rounds of the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Tournament presented by U.S. Bank will be held inside the confines of Quinn Coliseum.

And while the location may be familiar to the seventh-ranked EOU volleyball team, it certainly hasn't been friendly. The Mountaineers will face College of Idaho, a team that has knocked them out the past two seasons.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
The semifinals of the CCC Tournament will take place on Friday at 4 and 7 p.m., while the title match is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. Below is the tournament schedule:

Friday, November 11
Match One: No. 2 Corban vs. No. 3 Northwest (4 p.m.)
Match Two: No. 1 EOU vs. No. 4 College of Idaho (7 p.m.)

Saturday, November 12
Match Three (Championship): TBA (3 p.m.)

ABOUT THE TEAMS
No. 1 EOU (26-2, 19-1 CCC)
EOU clinched its second straight outright CCC title in 2016 after the squad mustered a 26-2 overall record and 19-1 mark in league play. This was also the third year in a row that the Mountaineers clinched at least a share of the regular-season title. The Blue and Gold owns a 10-0 mark at home, and its only CCC loss was to the Yotes on Oct. 14 in Caldwell, Idaho.

EOU ranks fourth in the country in hitting percentage (.280) and fifth in blocks per stanza (2.59). Junior hitter Madisen Garlie averages 1.34 blocks per set and swings .369, while junior outside hitter Amanda Miller averages a team-best 3.84 kills per frame. Senior setter Rachelle Chamberlain (10.8 assists/set) has multiple options, as six Mountaineers have booked 80 kills or more this season.

No. 2 Corban (21-5, 17-3 CCC)
Corban finds itself in uncharted territory, as the Warriors clinched their first 20-win season since 1997. The squad, which is ranked 22nd in the nation, has also enjoyed its first top-25 ranking since 1999. The Warriors finished the regular season with a 21-5 overall record and 17-3 effort in CCC action.

Madison McLain dishes out 11.04 assists per set (seventh in NAIA), most of which find Amber Parker, who posts 4.09 kills per stanza. Alaina Gentili is the team's most precise hitter, swinging .366 on the year.

No. 3 Northwest (19-7, 15-5 CCC)
Northwest returns to the semifinals after the Eagles earned a four-set (26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17) win over Warner Pacific in the quarterfinals on Tuesday night. Amanda Waterman averages a team-high 2.26 kills per set, while Morgan Pilon dishes out 9.6 assists per frame (37th in NAIA).

The Eagles dropped both matches to Corban this season, both in straight sets. Northwest did, however, split with College of Idaho.

No. 4 College of Idaho (20-9, 14-6 CCC)
A team no one ever wants to face in mid-November, College of Idaho is the four-time defending tournament champs of the CCC. The Yotes defeated Southern Oregon in four sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 25-13) on Tuesday in Caldwell, Idaho, to advance.

The Yotes are ninth in the NAIA in assists per set (12.54) and 19th in kills per stanza (13.4). Brenna Meehan delivers 3.64 kills per set, while Jayden Folsom dishes out 8.2 assists per frame. College of Idaho defeated EOU in last season's title match in straight sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-16).
