CALDWELL, Idaho. – The 17th-ranked EOU women's basketball team fell into a hole early against Montana Western as the Bulldogs took the lead first and never looked back, coming out on top with the 60-47 triumph.
Offensively for the Blue and Gold (5-2) junior guard
Maya Ah You posted a team-high 17 points along with seven boards. Junior forward
Stormee Van Belle chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.
The Bulldogs (8-0) had three players in double figures and were led by Brit Cooper, who posted a game-high 18 points.
Montana Western jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first period but a tip-in from junior guard
Alisha Sorensen ignited an 11-3 run by the Mountaineers, to cut the lead to just three (15-11) at the end of the stanza.
EOU got off to a slow start in the second period, allowing MW to go on a 9-0 run, digging itself in 10-point hole (31-21) heading into halftime.
A jumper by Ah You in the fifth minute mark of the third period cut the deficit to just six (29-35), but the Bulldogs closed out the stanza with a 10-3 run.
Despite winning the paint battle and matching the Bulldogs with 15 points in the fourth period, the hole was too deep for the Mounties to climb out of, as MW held on to win, 60-47.
EOU shot 31.5 percent (17-for-54) from the floor and forced 13 turnovers in the losing effort.
