No. 17 EOU Women’s Basketball Red Hot in 88-67 Win Over Johnson & Wales

LAKE WALES, Fla. – A 2,800-mile journey across the country didn't slow down the 17th-ranked EOU women's basketball team, as the Mountaineers shot 55 percent en route to breezing past Johnson & Wales, 88-67.

Senior guard Donniesha Webber and junior forward Stormee Van Belle paced five Mountaineers in double figures with 16 points apiece, and the duo also combined for 13 rebounds.

Junior sharpshooter Payton Parrish netted 13 points and nailed a pair of three's, while junior guard Maya Ah You and senior guard Darian Gasseling added 11 points apiece.

EOU (3-0) dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Wildcats, 49-19.

Trailing 15-14 in the first quarter, Gasseling nailed a jumper to kickstart a 22-10 run capped by an and-one by junior guard Khadija Neumeyer. Van Belle tossed in a bucket to give the Mountaineers a 40-29 advantage with 1:34 left in the second stanza, and the Blue and Gold ultimately took a nine-point (42-33) advantage into the locker room.

EOU opened the third with a 13-4 burst to extend the margin to 18 (55-37) after jumpers by Webber and Parrish. The Blue and Gold stretched its lead to 22 on seven different occasions for the remainder of the contest, and the Mountaineers shot over 54.5 percent (18-for-33) in the second half on the way to holding off Johnson & Wales (1-2).
