Pelayo Nets Brace, EOU Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Multnomah, 4-0

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Three different Mountaineers tallied their first career goals, and the EOU men's soccer team received a brace from junior midfielder Jesus Pelayo en route to toppling Multnomah, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon.

EOU put the pressure on Multnomah keeper Manny Guillermo early. Five minutes in, junior defender Carlos Peregrina shot from close range, but Guillermo was there for the denial. One minute later, Guillermo made another save on a right-footed attempt by freshman midfielder Taylor Willman.

In the 13th minute, EOU finally got on the board after freshman forward Daniel Silva scored his first career goal off a well-placed pass from Peregrina.
Later in the stanza, EOU almost posted its second goal of the match after sophomore forward Elvis Pavon's header deflected off the upper 90, and then senior midfielder Cristian Anguiano's shot found the hands of Guillermo.

At the half, the Blue and Gold (7-4-1, 2-4-1 CCC) owned a 14-3 shot advantage over the Lions (2-10, 0-8 CCC).

It only took five minutes into the second half for the Mountaineers to take control of the affair. Off a corner kick, Pelayo found a deflection and struck a shot that snuck past the outstretched hands of the diving keeper for his first goal of the 2016 campaign. Just seven minutes later, Pelayo answered once again. Pavon served a well-weighted cross into the box, and Pelayo was there for the one-timer to make it 3-0.

Willman capped the scoring in the 67th tick with his first goal in a Blue and Gold uniform and EOU's third tally during a 17-minute stretch of the second half. On a through ball from Anguiano, Willman's strike from inside the 18 skipped right by the keeper for the tally.

EOU finished the game with 29 shots, including 15 on goal. Senior keeper Alfredo Lara earned his second shutout of the season and registered two saves.
