LA GRANDE, Ore. – Saturday afternoon was a historic day for the EOU men's soccer team, as the Mountaineers turned in a dominating performance against Walla Walla, defeating the Wolves by an overwhelming 16-0 margin. The Blue and Gold shattered the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) record for goals in a single game with 16, and they also tied the single-game assist record with 12.
In total, EOU mustered four single-game school records, including most goals (16), most assists (12), most points by a player (12), and total team shots (54).
Freshman forward
Micah Hill led the way for the Mountaineers (8-4-1, 3-4-1 CCC), netting his first-career goal and later going on to record the second hat-trick in program history. Joining Hill in scoring their first career goals were junior midfielder
Zane Smith and senior midfielder
Sidronio Rangel.
Sophomore midfielder
Julian Wells set the tone early against Walla Walla (0-8, 0-8 CCC), scoring two minutes into the game off a pass from Hill. Within the next nine minutes, senior midfielder
Robert Wilson tallied twice to put the Mountaineers up, 3-0.
In the 17th minute, freshman midfielder
Taylor Willman scored unassisted, and then Hill found the back of the net on a clear-run to extend the damage to 5-0.
Collecting their own braces on the afternoon, sophomore midfielder
Anthony Leavens and freshman forward
Oscar Munoz scored two goals apiece to give the Mountaineers a 9-0 halftime lead.
Hill completed his hat-trick in the 51st and 53rd ticks with assists credited to sophomore midfielder
Steven Beaudry and sophomore forward
Elvis Pavon, and Pavon ultimately notched two goals himself.
Smith booked his first career goal via a penalty kick in the 78th minute, and Rangel capped EOU's scoring before the end of a regulation to make it a 16-0 contest.
Sophomore keeper
Aidan Wright garnered his first win and registered two saves on the afternoon en route to collecting the shutout.
