CHAMPIONS: No. 7 EOU Volleyball Powers Past Oregon Tech to Clinch Outright CCC Title

LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the third straight season, the No. 7 EOU volleyball team sealed the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) regular-season crown, as the Mountaineers hit .349 en route to sweeping Oregon Tech (25-8, 25-14, 25-14) on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.

The outright champions for the second year in a row, EOU shared the title with Southern Oregon in 2014.

The Blue and Gold (25-2, 18-1 CCC) remained perfect (9-0) in La Grande, as seniors Makayla Lindburg and Kasaundra Tuma led the way with 10 kills apiece. Prior to the match, EOU honored Lindburg and Tuma, as well as its two other seniors in Rachelle Chamberlain and Sierra Linke.

Linke and Lindburg posted 10 digs apiece, while Chamberlain, the career assist leader at EOU, added 34 more to her tally.

The first set was all EOU, as the Mountaineers hit .400 while holding the Owls (11-13, 7-11 CCC) to a negative .029 clip. Kills by junior right-side hitter Isabelle Statkus and Linke put the Blue and Gold up 15 (21-6), and EOU later capped the set with a solo rejection and kill by junior hitter Madisen Garlie, and another tally from Lindburg.

In the second set, Oregon Tech crept to within six (19-13) before Garlie and Linke teamed up for kills and then a block assist to spark a 6-1 run to close the stanza.

While the third frame was tight (12-10) early on, the Mountaineers were simply too much for the Owls, booking five points in a row to break away by seven (17-10). Oregon Tech fired back with two in a row, but Tuma hammered down a kill and recorded two block assists amidst a 6-0 run, and the senior ultimately sealed the deal with the winning kill.

3RD – Straight CCC regular-season title.
2ND – Straight outright conference championship.
40 – Wins in a row for EOU at home in regular-season CCC play.
