Anderson Breaks Record in Overtime Loss to Carroll

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Freshman forward Zoe Anderson's record-breaking goal may not have been the prettiest of her young career, but it certainty came at an opportune time for the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team.

Amidst a scramble in the box, Anderson sent home the game-tying score in the 82nd minute, and the California native became the all-time single-season leader in goals at EOU with 10 thus far.

"I'm happy for Zoe Anderson to break the EOU single-season goal record with 10 goals on the season to pass a previous high of nine by Kristen Rice," said head women's soccer coach Justin Wagar.

Despite the effort, the Navy and Gold lost its first game of the 2015 campaign, falling 2-1 to Carroll College in double overtime on Saturday evening.

"I thought today's matchup was a great game between two very good teams that went down to the wire," said Wagar. "I am proud of the way our team fought back after going down late in the game to tie things up, and then we nearly had a chance to win it in the final minutes of regulation."

Key Performances
Anderson knotted the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) affair at one apiece with a shot from close range late in the second half.

In goal, junior keeper Jessica parker amassed a season-high seven saves in a losing effort.

The Storyline
In a battle for first place of the CCC, it's no surprise that the two teams battled back-and-forth in a scoreless affair for much of the evening.

After the first 70 minutes included 16 shots between the two squads, Michaela Kueffler notched the go-ahead score for Carroll in the 72nd minute.

On a corner kick in the 81st minute, sophomore forward Maddi Cillay fired a shot that was blocked by the Saints. Amidst a scramble in the box, Anderson got a touch and tapped the ball in from close range to tie the match at one apiece in the 82nd minute.

In the 103rd minute, Parker swatted away a shot by Lexi Pyette, but Katey Friedt followed two seconds later with the game-winner for Carroll, and the Mountaineers suffered their first loss of the season.

"It's always unfortunate to lose a close game, especially in overtime," said Wagar. "But we're looking forward to taking the field again next weekend and having the opportunity to compete again."

Stat of the Game
14 – Shots by Carroll, the first time an opponent tallied double-figure shots vs. EOU this season.
