Mountaineer Women’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 3-1 Win Over Great Falls

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Wins used to be few and far between for the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team. Nowadays, they've been coming every weekend, as the Mountaineers used a three-goal second half to take down Great Falls, 3-1, on Friday night at the EOU Soccer Field.

"I'm proud of the team and the way we played tonight," said head women's soccer coach Justin Wagar. "We had a tough match and struggled to finish for a while, but we kept chipping away until we were finally able to break through. Kudos to Great Falls – they played their hearts out, and they are a quality tem that be in the mix for a playoff spot this year. Now, we've got to do a quick turn around and prepare for another strong team in Carroll College tomorrow at 4 p.m."

Key Performances

Senior forward Crystal Schuder, sophomore forward Maddi Cillay, and sophomore midfielder Makensie Forsyth all scored a goal in the second half to pave the way for EOU.

The Storyline

Although the first half was scoreless, EOU dominated on the offensive end, firing 12 shots compared to only two by Great Falls.

In the 54th minute of action, Forsyth muscled her way through her defender on the right side, as she fired from close range and scored to put EOU on top, 1-0.

The Navy and Gold extended its lead to two (2-0) in the 67th minute after Cillay fired away and hit the post, but the ball ricocheted and bounced into the net to grant the Washington native her sixth goal of the 2015 campaign.

Schuder's hard work eventually paid off in the 86th minute, as her seventh shot of the game reached the back of the net to give EOU a 3-0 advantage.

Although sophomore midfielder Alejandra Guzman countered with a goal for Great Falls (3-2-1, 1-2 CCC) in the 87th minute, EOU hung on to remain undefeated.
