KIRKLAND, Wash. – The No. 17 Eastern Oregon University Women's Basketball Team clinched at least a share of the 2014-15 Regular Season Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship after defeating Northwest University, 64-56, on Friday night.
The Mountaineers will play to win the title outright tomorrow night when they play at Evergreen.
Maya Ah You led the Mountaineers (23-5, 15-2 CCC) with 15 points.
Airashay Rogers followed with 13 points to extend EOU's winning streak to nine games.
Chanara Greene scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Eagles (11-17, 3-14 CCC). Jordan Asher followed with 16 points for Northwest.
The Mountaineers opened the contest, against the Eagles, on a 9-0 run and would never trail the rest of the contest. During the run, Rogers scored five of the Mountaineers' nine points.
After the Mountaineers' 9-0 run to start the contest, the Eagles slowly started to chip away at the Mountaineers lead. Northwest trimmed the lead down to four points, 11-7, after going on a 7-2 run. Northwest continued to slowly chip away and after a Green layup, EOU's lead was down to three, 16-13.
Eastern Oregon answered right back and extended their lead back to double figures, capped by a free throw by Rogers. After Rogers' free throw, EOU led 30-18. Eastern Oregon continued to grow their lead and built their biggest lead of the half, 14 points, 39-25, with four minutes to go before halftime.
EOU and Northwest traded buckets to end the half and Eastern Oregon took a 10 point lead, 43-33, into halftime.
Starting the second half, Northwest and Eastern Oregon continued to trade baskets and after the first five minutes of the second half, EOU continued to lead by 10 points, 47-37.
The Mountaineers struggled to put the Eagles away in the contest and with 7:26 left in the contest, EOU led by only eight points, 52-44.
EOU slowly extended their lead back to double-digits as they took a 13 point lead, 64-51 with two minutes to go in the game. Northwest had could not muster a comeback and Eastern Oregon came away with an eight point victory, 64-56.
EOU returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 21 when they play at The Evergreen State College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT.
