LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team nailed 18 three's and dished out 42 assists, and the Mountaineers breezed past Walla Walla, 120-17, on Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum.
With the victory, EOU set a record for the most lopsided win in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) history, and the Mountaineers also set a record for the fewest points allowed in league history.
Key Performances
Five players scored in double figures for the Mountaineers. Junior forward Ashley Knight registered a career-best performance with 18 points and 14 rebounds on 9-for-10 shooting. Sophomore guard Payton Parrish also scored 18 points in just 14 minutes of action, as she drilled six three-pointers for the Navy and Gold.
Senior guard Kelsey Hill netted 15 points, while senior forward Madeline Laan and junior guard Darian Gasseling added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Christina Thermidor paced Walla Walla with six points.
The Storyline
The Mountaineers (6-4, 2-0 CCC) racked up 19 unanswered points in the opening six minutes and never looked back. Ten different players scored in the first quarter for EOU, and the Mountaineers shared the wealth offensively.
After Janessa Blaser knocked down a three-pointer to make it a 54-11 game, senior guard Maloree Moss responded with a long-ball of her own, and then junior guard Donniesha Webber scored a layup to kickstart a 15-0 EOU run to end the second quarter.
The Navy and Gold led at the break, 69-11. EOU hit 63.6 percent (28-for-44) of its shots in the opening 20 minutes and had 23 assists.
The Mountaineers refused to slow down in the third quarter, as the squad opened the stanza with a 23-0 run capped by a jumper from Moss to take a 92-11 advantage with 3:20 left in the period.
EOU hit triple-digits (100-13) after Hill drained a three with 8:41 left in the contest, and the Mountaineers ultimately led by as many as 104 points after Knight's layup made it a 118-14 game with 2:47 left.
