Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – Senior forward Madeline Laan netted a season-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and the No. 14 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team utilized a big second quarter to drop Montana Tech, 56-50, on Friday night in game one of the Lady Yote Classic.
Key Performances
Laan did her damage on 7-for-9 shooting, including a 7-for-10 effort from the charity stripe.
Sophomore guard Payton Parrish tossed in 14 points off the bench, while senior forward Nikki Osborne added four points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
Sammy McGee led Montana Tech (4-6) with 17 points on 5-for-15 shooting.
The Storyline
Trailing by one (11-10) to start the second quarter, Parrish scored six-straight points, and then Laan converted a layup and a pair of free throws to put EOU (3-4) on top, 20-11, with 6:54 left in the frame.
Laan and Parrish tallied two more points apiece, and then senior guard Jordan Klebaum drilled a three-pointer to grant the Mountaineers their largest lead (27-16) of the first half.
The Navy and Gold tallied 12 points off 12 turnovers by Montana Tech to build a 33-22 lead at halftime.
EOU hit just one field goal in the third quarter to help the Orediggers get as close as three in the stanza.
Layups by Laan and senior guard Maloree Moss put EOU up by six (41-35) with 7:25 left, but Montana Tech continued to hang around, making the game a one-possession contest on three more occasions.
Martha Dembek drilled a three to make it a two-point (50-48) affair with 54 seconds left, but Osborne responded with a layup on EOU's next possession, and the Mountaineers made four free throws down the stretch to hang on.
Stat of the Game
22 – Second-chance points for the Mountaineers. EOU used another solid effort on the glass to seal the victory, outrebounding Montana Tech, 45-36, on Friday night.
