NEW ORLEANS, La.– The No. 14 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team used a +19 margin on the glass and a 47.2 percent effort from the field to dominate Southern University at New Orleans, 67-42, on Monday night to cap the squad's two-game road swing in The Big Easy.
Key Performances
Senior forward Nikki Osborne went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field en route to scoring a team-high 14 points. She also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists.
Tallying 13 points off the bench, senior forward Ashley Knight shot 6-for-10 and knocked down a three-pointer, while sophomore guard Payton Parrish chipped in five points and snagged a career-high 12 rebounds.
Micah Brooks led the way for Southern (0-4) with 16 points, while Taiya Jackson recorded a double-double (14 points, 12 rebounds) for the Knights.
The Storyline
After getting down four early, the Mountaineers (2-4) used a 17-5 run to end the first quarter, as Parrish nailed a jumper to put EOU on top, 17-9, with 54 seconds left.
A jumper by Deja Young cut the Navy and Gold's advantage to four (23-19) with 4:11 left in the half, but Knight netted five points amidst a 10-0 burst to extend EOU's lead to 14 (33-19).
EOU jumped out of the locker room on fire, drilling its first six shots to muster a 49-27 lead with 5:14 left in the third quarter after Knight connected on one of her six field goals.
The Mountaineers led by as many as 30 (65-35) after senior guard Kelsey Hill converted a three-point play, and the Knights couldn't overcome EOU's stifling defense, as it held Southern to a 30 percent (18-for-60) clip.
