SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Despite outshooting Carroll College, 11-7, the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to the Saints via a penalty kick shootout, 3-2, in the 2015 Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) Championship on Saturday evening.
Despite the defeat, EOU still carded its first-ever spot in the NAIA National Tournament.
Key Performances
Senior forward Crystal Schuder registered three shots for the Mountaineers, while freshman forward Zoe Anderson added two shot attempts.
In goal, juniors Jessica Parker and Tessa Pitzer tallied one save apiece in the losing effort.
The Storyline
After a scoreless 110 minutes, the two CCC foes were forced to square off in a penalty kick shootout.
Following a Carroll conversion, Anderson and freshman forward Alexandria Cuaresma netted goals to keep EOU in the shootout. Pitzer made two saves until yielding a goal by Carroll's Tayla Vaira to make it a 3-2 affair, and then sophomore midfielder Makensie Forsyth came up empty to seal the victory for the Saints.
