Mountaineers Takes Down I-84 Rival C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – A season-high 22 points by Airashay Rogers led the No. 24 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team past I-84 rival College of Idaho, 67-60, on Friday evening at the J.A. Albertson's Activities Center.
 
Rogers, was 7-of-13 shooting to lead EOU (14-4, 6-1 CCC) to their fourth straight victory. Madeline Laan followed with 16 points, while Maya Ah You added 11 points. Kassy Larson just missed out on a double-double as she scored nine points and collected nine rebounds.
 
Elisha Hensey led the Yotes (5-11, 4-3 CCC) with 21 points. Hensey added nine rebounds and five assists. Jamiece Yizar added 14 points for College of Idaho, who saw their three game home winning streak end.
 
Eastern Oregon scored the first four points of the game and never trailed in the first half of the game against the Yotes as they opened up the game on a 15 to four run. During the stretch, Rogers scored nine of the Mountaineers 15 points.
 
The Yotes trimmed the Eastern Oregon lead down to eight points, 22-14, with 9:43 left in the half, but EOU answered back and went on a 12-4 run taking an 18 point lead, 36-18, the largest lead for the Mountaineers in the first half.
 
After the 18 point lead, EOU's offense cooled off as for the final three minutes of the half, EOU made only one basket. College of Idaho went on an 11-0 run trimming the lead down to seven, 36-29, with 15 seconds left. Rogers hit her second three pointer of the half as time expired, putting EOU ahead, 39-29, at halftime.
 
The Yotes continued to mount a comeback early in the second half of the contest. College of Idaho opened up the half by trimming the EOU lead down to three points, 43-40, after a Brittany Wirth three pointer. This was the closest the Yotes would get for the remainder of the game.
 
After the Yotes cut the Mountaineers lead down to three, EOU stretched the lead back to double-digits, 57-46, after a free throw by Laan. The Yotes made one last effort to comeback against and after a fast break layup by Wirth, College of Idaho trailed by five, 61-56.
 
EOU sealed the game down the stretch by shooting four-for-six from the free throw line to claim the 67-60 victory over College of Idaho.
 
The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Jan. 16 when EOU travels to Eugene, Ore. to face Northwest Christian University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT.
