Three-Pointers Lead EOU to Victory

SALEM, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team shot 11-for-26 (42 percent) from behind the arc in their 70-59, victory over Corban University on Saturday evening.
 
Rada, a junior from Kennewick, Wash., led the way for the Mountaineers (11-8, 3-6 CCC) with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including six from behind the arc. Bryan McGriff added 16, while De'Sean Mattox scored 14 points in the victory.
 
Jordan Carter led the way for the Warriors (9-9, 2-7 CCC) with 18 points. Toby Roth added 13 points for Corban, who lost their seventh-straight contest.
 
Eastern Oregon and Corban traded buckets to start the game as both teams held the lead twice, early. A McGriff three-pointer gave EOU a 6-5 lead. EOU continued to add to their lead and built it to 14-8. During the first eight minutes of the contest, EOU hit four three pointers.
 
With 11:45 left in the half, Christian Parrott increased the Mountaineers lead to 16-10. Over the next four minutes of the game, the Warriors held EOU to four points and scored ten of their own to tie the game at 20-20.
 
EOU answered by going on an 11-4 run, growing their lead to seven points, 31-24, with 3:21 left in the half. The Mountaineers could not hold onto the lead and a pair of free throws by Roth tied the game at 33-33, going into halftime.
 
The Warriors came out of halftime scoring seven of the first ten points of the second half, capped off by a three-pointer by Carter, putting Corban ahead, 43-36. The Mountaineers responded by scoring the next eight points, taking a 44-43 lead after a three-pointer by Rada.
 
After EOU took a one point lead, Corban grew their lead back to five points, but the Mountaineers answered back and a layup by Michael Crane tied the game at 54-54. After tying the game, EOU went on a 9-2 run, capped by a Rada three, putting EOU on top 63-56 with three minutes remaining in the contest.
 
The Mountaineers held the Warriors to three points for the rest of the game and Eastern Oregon came away with a 70-59 victory over Corban.
 
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 when they host Oregon Tech at 7:30 p.m. PT at Quinn Coliseum.
