Mountaineers Draw with College of Idaho

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team opened up Cascade Collegiate Conference action with a 1-1 double overtime tie with The College of Idaho Yotes on Friday afternoon.
 
The Yotes looked to be breaking the scoreless tie early in the game as Jamiece Yizar's shot hit the cross bar and bounced back into the playing field. Less than a minute later, Kataelyn Benavidez had a one on one opportunity with goalkeeper Charli Torres, and Torres recorded the save to keep the game scoreless.
 
In the 20th minute of action, the Mountaineers' Kaeliana De Vera had a scoring chance as she got behind the Yotes defenders, but Brittany Houghton recorded the save to keep the game scoreless.
 
The Mountaineers broke the scoreless tie late in the first half. Alora Brown sent a cross to the top of the six yard box and found De Vera who turned and fired a shot into the left corner of the goal to take the 1-0 lead going into halftime.
 
Early in the second half, the Yotes tied the game at 1-1. Hailey Woods took a free kick from the right corner and found Summer Jackson, who headed the ball past Jessica Parker to tie the game.
 
College of Idaho had a few scoring chances late in the second half but the Mountaineers defense stood tall and kept the game tied at 1-1 to force overtime.
 
The Mountaineers had a scoring chance in the first overtime as Makensie Forsyth fired a shot on goal but College of Idaho's Houghton made the save. The game remained tied at 1-1 after the first overtime to force a second overtime.

EOU had another good scoring chance in the second overtime, as Addie Beplate fired a shot on a goal but Houghton recorded the save. College of Idaho responded two minutes later and Parker kept the game tied at 1-1.
 
The Mountaineers had one last shot to win the contest as De Vera fired a shot on goal with 15 second left in the game, however, her shot went wide and the Mountaineers and Yotes played to a 1-1 tie.
 
The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 2 when they host Concordia (Ore.) at 3 p.m. at the EOU Soccer Complex.
