Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – Senior,
Casey Loper led the No. 14 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team to their fourth straight win on Friday night. EOU swept The Evergreen State College Geoducks, 25-19, 25-14, 25-17, and Loper recorded a match-high 12 kills.
Emily Nay followed with nine kills and Kasundra Tuma recorded seven for EOU on the evening.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 35 assists on the night, while
Jessalyn Smith recorded a match-high, 16 digs.
The Mountaineers and Geoducks were locked into a tight battle during set one, as there were 14 ties and four lead changes in the set. With the set tied at 16-16, Tuma collected a kill to put EOU on top, 17-16.
EOU held the lead for the remainder of the set as Loper and Nay recorded three kills to extend the Mountaineers to 24-19. The Mountaineers won set one, 25-19, after a Geoduck attack error.
Eastern Oregon led set two from the beginning to the end and the Mountaineers raced out to an early, 6-2, lead over the Geoducks. Evergreen continued to battle and trimmed the Mountaineers' advantage down to five points, 13-8.
The Mountaineers continued to extend its lead over the Geoducks in the second set and led by eight, after a kill by Nay, 20-12. EOU scored the next three points, to take an 11 point advantage, 23-12. Evergreen could not claw back into the set and a kill by Nay gave EOU the set, 25-14, and a 2-0 lead.
Eastern Oregon and Evergreen remained close for the early part of set three. After a kill by Loper, the Mountaineers tied the set at 11-11. Loper gave EOU the lead, after recording her second kill in a row, and Eastern Oregon never trailed again in the set.
The Mountaineers extended their lead to seven points, 22-15, after a kill by
Amanda Miller. The Geoducks could not battle back and EOU claimed set three, 25-17, giving EOU the sweep.
Eastern Oregon returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13, when they play at Northwest University at 5 p.m.
