Click Here Frontier Preseason PollOn July 28th the Frontier Conference Office announced the 2014 Football Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Mountaineers were picked to finish fourth in the conference as they received 29 points. EOU finished eight points behind Southern Oregon, who was picked to finish third. Defending Frontier Champions, Carroll (Mont.) were picked to repeat as Conference Champions.
NAIA Coaches Preseason Top 25The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers missed out on the NAIA Football Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll by ten points. The Mountaineers were the first team out of the poll. The first regular season Coaches' Top 25 Poll comes out on Sept. 15th.
All-Time Vs. MenloEOU will face Menlo for the third time in school history on Saturday, Aug. 23rd. EOU is 1-1 verse Menlo. The Mountaineers and Oaks have not met since 2004. In the last meeting, EOU traveled to Menlo and defeated the Oaks 45-14. The previous year Menlo traveled to La Grande and defeated EOU, 24-21.
About the OaksMenlo (Calif.) College finished the 2013 with a 5-5 record. The Oaks return quarterback Wade Hawkins for the 2014 season. He appeared in 10 games last season and passed for 144.2 yards per game and 14 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season. Daniel Jones is the top wide receiver returning from the 2013 team. Jones recorded 22 receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown. Menlo lost its top two wide receivers from last season and its team leaders in tackles, Jaden Rosselli (73), and interceptions, James Yoder (5). The Oaks were fifth in the NAIA in penalty yards per game last season as they averaged 91.8 yards per game.
Season Openers Under CampThe Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers are led by Head Coach
Tim Camp, who enters his seventh year as the helm. EOU is 3-3 in season openers under Coach Camp. Last year's loss in the season opener broke a two game winning streak in the season openers for EOU.
Recapping 2013The Mountaineers finished last season with an 6-5 overall record and 6-4 in the Frontier Conference. EOU's first victory of the season came on Sept. 28 when the Mountaineers defeated then-No. 3 Carroll College, 35-31. Eastern Oregon trailed entering the fourth quarter, 31-14, and the Mountaineers scored the last 21 points led by
Chris McGinnis-Parker, who scored all three touchdowns in the quarter. The win sparked the Mountaineers to win six of its last seven games of the season. On Nov. 17 the Mountaineers joined the Coaches' Top 25 for the first time Oct. 1, 2012. The Mountaineers also saw single season success from
Chris McGinnis-Parker and
Jace Billingsley. McGinnis-Parker became the single season rushing record holder for EOU after rushing for 1,361 yards. Billingsley became the single season record holder for most receptions in a season with 69. Billingsley sits 29 receptions away from breaking the career reception record. Along with the individual success EOU saw in 2013, the Mountaineers also saw success as a team. Eastern Oregon ran the most plays in a season with 821 and most total yards in a season with 4,856. Seven EOU players were named Frontier All-Conference. Four players were named to the first team offense or defensive team led by McGinnis-Parker and Billingsley on the offensive side of the ball.
Ryan Watson and
Kyle Lanoue earned first team Defensive All-Conference. Billingsley also earned first team special teams honors.
Emory Jones and
Garek Stuart were named second team Offensive All-Conference, while
Karsen Garcia earned second team Defensive All-Conference.
