Yotes Overpower EOU, 92-65

CALDWELL, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team was overpowered by College of Idaho, Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the CCC Tournament presented by U.S. Bank. The Yotes defeated EOU, 92-65.

Kevin Attila led the Mountaineers with 21 points as he was a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the arc. Tony Eackles Jr. followed with 15 points and Craig Tucker scored 11 points.

Eastern Oregon jumped out early in the first two minutes of the contest against College of Idaho. The Mountaineers scored the first seven points of the game. Tony Eackles Jr. scored five of the seven points. However, after the fast start Eastern Oregon went three minutes without a basket and C of I scored eight unanswered points to take an 8-7 lead.

After the Yotes took the lead, the Mountaineers continued to battle and both teams traded leads. With College of Idaho ahead 11-10, the Mountaineers scored five straight to take a 15-11 lead. College of Idaho continued to battle and took the lead back after a pair of Antonio Garrett free throws.

College of Idaho slowly started to pull away from EOU late in the first half. With C of I ahead by two points, 26-24, the Yotes went on an 8-1 run to pull ahead 32-25, with 2:33 left before halftime. EOU trimmed the lead back to three points, 34-31, after a Trevor Phillips three pointer but Taylor Pruett answered on the other end to put C of I ahead by six points, 37-31, to go into halftime.

The Yotes wasted little time extending their lead in the second half of the contest. College of Idaho scored 13 of the first 15 points of the second half to take a 52-36 lead over EOU with 15:16 left in the second half.

After an Eackles free throw made it 52-37, C of I went on a 7-0 run to take a 60-37 lead with 12:40 left in the second half. During the two different runs for C of I, the Mountaineers were held without a field goal for six minutes.

Kevin Attila broke the field goal drought for EOU as he hit a three pointer. After Attila's three pointer, EOU scored five more points to trim the C of I lead down to 15 points, 62-47. The Yotes however grew its lead back to 21 points, 68-47 with under seven minutes to go in the second half.

The Mountaineers tried to mount a comeback in the final seven minutes of the contest but had no answer for the Yotes offense. For every EOU bucket the Yotes had one of their own and Eastern Oregon found themselves down 86-61 with 2:35 left in the contest. EOU fell to the Yotes, 92-65.
