CCC Player of the WeekOn Monday, junior forward,
Bryan McGriff was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Red Lion Men's Basketball Player of the Week. McGriff averaged 29.0 points and 10 rebounds per game. He collected two double-doubles for the weekend and shot 65 percent from the floor. He led the Mountaineers from behind the arc on Saturday, as he hit six of the Mountaineers 15 three-pointers.
CCC Opening WeekendLast weekend the Mountaineers opened up CCC action against Evergreen and Northwest. EOU was a perfect 2-0 on the weekend. On Friday, against Evergreen, EOU came away with a 90-84 victory.
De'Sean Mattox and
Bryan McGriff lead the Mountaineers with 24 points apiece, while
Michael Crane followed with 20 points.
Case Rada scored 10 points to round out the Mountaineers in double-figures. McGriff collected 10 rebounds on the night for his sixth double-double of the season. The Mountaineers shooting was on fire on Saturday as they shot 63 percent from the floor for the game. Eastern Oregon tied a season best by hitting 15 three-pointers, led by McGriff's six, en route to a 100-82 victory over Northwest. McGriff led all scorers with 34 points. He also collected 10 rebounds for third consecutive double-double. Mattox followed with 26 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
Deonta Edwards rounded out the double-figure scorers for EOU with 19.
Looking at MultnomahThe Lions of Multnomah University enter the matchup against the Mountaineers with a 4-11 record. The Lions were victorious in their last game on Dec. 6, when they defeated Bethesda University, 99-96. On the season, Multnomah is averaging 90.8 points per game, while allowing 101.7 points per game. They are shooting 41-percent from the floor and are collecting 36.5 rebounds per game. Steven Sansone leads the Lions scoring as he averages in 26.6 points per game, but he has only appeared in five games this season. Following Sansone is Blake Updike who is averaging 19.3 points per game as he has appeared in 13 games.
Double-DoubleBryan McGriff finds himself ranked second in the NAIA in Double-Doubles on the season. Entering this weekend, McGriff has collected seven double-doubles. He is one behind the leader; J'Quayveon Williams of Truett-McConnell (Ga.), who leads the NAIA with eight.
Scoring OffenseThe Mountaineers are averaging 90.0 points per game over their first ten games of the season. EOU's 90.0 average ranks them eighth in the nation. They are 0.78 points away from seventh place Bethany (Kan.). William Penn (Iowa) leads the nation in scoring averaging 100.33.
Outrebounding TeamsEastern Oregon leads the NAIA in rebounds per game as they collect 49.1 per game. They also lead in rebounding margin per game as they outrebounding their opponents by an averaging of 16.2.
Blocks Per GameThe Mountaineers top the Nation in blocks per game as they average 6.7. They lead Concordia (Neb.), 6.27 blocks per game, which rank second.
Kalvin Johanson leads the Mountaineers block party as he averages 4.0 blocks per game. On the season, Johanson has recorded 32 blocks.
What's Up NextThe Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Dec. 19 when they travel to Ashland, Ore. to face Southern Oregon University. Saturday, Dec. 20 the Mountaineers take on Oregon Tech. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
