Mountaineers Rout College of Idaho, 47-7

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University football team claimed its third straight win, as they defeated College of Idaho, 47-7, on Saturday night at Community Stadium.

Zach Bartlow led the way for the Mountaineers (4-1, 3-1 Frontier Conference), as he was 15-of-22 passing for 223 yards and four touchdown passes. Jace Billingsley recorded five receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. With the five receptions, Billingsley ties Ray Patrick for most receptions in EOU history.

EOU got off to a fast start on both sides of the ball. The Mountaineers defense held the Yotes (3-2, 2-2 Frontier Conference) on their first three plays of the game, forcing them to punt. However, a poor snap to punter Kevin McLemore caused the Yotes to not punt the ball and McLemore threw an incomplete pass to give EOU the ball on the Yotes 27 yard line.

On the second offensive play of the game for EOU, Bartlow dropped back and found Billingsley wide open down the middle of the field for a 24 yard touchdown reception. After the PAT, the Mountaineers led, 7-0.

The Yotes offense got things going on their next drive. College of Idaho went 80 yards on 13 plays to tie the game. Teejay Gordon capped off the drive with a two yard touchdown run.

To start the second quarter, College of Idaho was looking for the go-ahead score. On a second and sixth, Byron Benson picked Gordon off and went 86 yards for a touchdown, this put EOU ahead 13-7.

EOU did not look back after taking the lead. On the next offensive possession for EOU, Bartlow led the Mountaineers down the field on 8 plays. On a first and goal, from the five yard line, Bartlow took a quarterback keeper to the end zone and extended  the Mountaineers lead to 20-7.

The Mountaineers were not done for the quarter and extended its their lead to 20 points, 27-7, after Bartlow found Billingsley for a 19 yard touchdown reception. This was the second time in the game Bartlow found Billingsley for a touchdown.

Eastern Oregon took the, 27-7, lead into halftime.

On the first drive of the third quarter, Bartlow and Billingsley connected on their third touchdown of the game. On a fourth and seven, Bartlow found Billingsley, who outran the defenders for a touchdown. EOU's advantage grew to 33-7.

Later in the third quarter, Bartlow connected on his fourth touchdown pass of the game, finding Justin Hernandez for a 38 yard touchdown pass. This extended the Mountaineers lead to 33 points, 40-7.

The Mountaineers added one more score late in the fourth quarter. Tucker Stanley picked off Jake Hennessey and went 63 yards, for the Mountaineers second interception, for a touchdown. This put EOU ahead, 47-7, which was the final score.
