No. 13The national office announced Tuesday that EOU fell five spots, from No. 8 to No. 13, in the eighth edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
Senior DaySaturday is senior day for the Mountaineers. Prior to the game against Southern Oregon University, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers will honor their four seniors from this year's team. EOU will be honoring
Jessalyn Smith,
Casey Loper,
Stefani Sorensen and
Bobbi Sumpter.
Last WeekendEastern Oregon went 1-1 last week. EOU opened up the week with a compiled hitting percentage of .323, while holding Warner Pacific College to a hitting percentage of -.041 on the night, as the Mountaineers swept the Knights, 25-7, 25-15, 25-18. The sweep for Eastern Oregon is their seventh straight. EOU was led by senior,
Casey Loper, who recorded 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .619 for the night.
Emily Nay followed with 10 kills and a hitting percentage of .562. The next night, EOU dropped their first match since, Sept. 26, on Saturday evening as Concordia University defeated EOU, 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 20-25,11-25).
Casey Loper recorded a game-high 18 kills to lead the Mountaineers.
Amanda Miller followed with 16 kills.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 47 assists on the night, while
Jessalyn Smith recorded a game-high 24 digs
Top FiveEOU ranks in the top five in the nation in assists per set and kills per set. The Mountaineers are averaging 13.0 assists per set and 14.1 kills per set. Coastal Georgia (Ga.) leads the nation with 13.7 assists per set and 14.6 kills per set.
CCC TournamentThe Eastern Oregon Volleyball Team has already clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament, which starts on Nov. 11. Currently, the Mountaineers are in second place, one game behind Southern Oregon, with a 12-2 record. The top six teams in the regular season standings will earn spots in the conference's postseason tournament, which begins Nov. 11. The regular season champion and the runner-up will earn a berth in the tournament semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinals, which matches the No. 3 and 6 seeds and the 4 and 5 seeds. Quarterfinals will be held on campus sites while the regular season champion will host the semifinals and finals. The CCC's tournament champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
