Last WeekendLast weekend the Mountaineers were 1-1 against Simpson University. The Mountaineers second half comeback against Simpson fell short as EOU was defeated, 84-81, in their home opener. The Mountaineers used a strong second half to battle back after trailing by 14 points at halftime. Casa Rada led Eastern Oregon with 24 points and three rebounds. Rada went 5-10 from behind the arch and 7-11 from the line.
Deonta Edwards followed with 18 points and six rebounds, while
Bryan McGriff contributed a double-double on the night with 13 points and 10 rebounds. EOU responded to the loss to by defeating the Red Hawks, 83-77, on Saturday evening. EOU's
Case Rada led the team with 29 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Bryan McGriff also contributed with 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Michael Crane had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Top Spot in the NationThe Mountaineers currently rank first in a few statistical categories on the season. EOU ranks first in total assists (71), Offensive rebounds per game (24.8), total blocks (29), total three pointers made (34), total scoring offense (330) and total rebounds per game (59.0).
CCC Coaches' Preseason PollEOU was picked to finish eighth in the CCC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Mountaineers received 48 points and finished three points behind seventh place Warner Pacific. Eastern Oregon was 16-13 last season and 7-11 in CCC action.
Preseason All-CCCBryan McGriff was named to the All-CCC Preseason Team. McGriff, a junior guard from Las Vegas, Nev., comes to EOU from Grays Harbor Community College. During his sophomore year at Grays Harbor, McGriff averaged 24.4 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game.
