Click here No. 8EOU improved to No. 8 in the seventh edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The No. 8 ranking is the highest ranking for EOU in program history. The previous high was set last year when EOU climbed to No. 9.
Last WeekIn a packed Quinn Coliseum, the No. 9 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team collected their sixth straight sweep, as the Mountaineers defeated College of Idaho, 34-32, 25-21, 25-21, on Friday evening.
Casey Loper led the Mountaineers (21-2, 11-1 CCC) with 16 kills on the evening.
Katina Ferguson and
Amanda Miller followed with 15 and 12 kills, respectively.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 45 assists for the Mountaineers.
Jessalyn Smith collected a game-high 17 digs.
1,000 Career DigsAgainst College of Idaho,
Jessalyn Smith recorded a game-high 17 digs. Her 17th dig was the biggest of the night as it was her 1,000th dig in her EOU career.
School Record BrokenWith six conference games remaining this season,
Rachelle Chamberlain has already broken the single season school record for assists. Chamberlain enters this weekend with 874 assists on the season. Last season,
Karly Stack set the single season record with 854.
Top Ten in NAIAAs a team the Mountaineers rank fourth in the nation in assists per set (13.04) and sixth in kills per set (14.1).
Rachelle Chamberlain finds herself fourth in the NAIA in assists per set as she is averaging 11.1. Loper, who leads the Mountaineers in kills with 344, ranks seventh in the country with 4.3 kills per set.
PostseasonThe Eastern Oregon have already clinched a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament, which starts on Nov. 11. Currently, the Mountaineers are tied for first with Southern Oregon, with an 11-1 record.
CCC TournamentThe top six teams in the regular season standings will earn spots in the conference's postseason tournament, which begins Nov. 11. The regular season champion and the runner-up will earn a berth in the tournament semifinals against the winner of the quarterfinals, which matches the No. 3 and 6 seeds and the 4 and 5 seeds. Quarterfinals will be held on campus sites while the regular season champion will host the semifinals and finals. The CCC's tournament champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
Senior DayNext weekend prior to the game against Southern Oregon University, the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers will honor their four seniors from this year's team. EOU will be honoring
Jessalyn Smith,
Casey Loper,
Stefani Sorensen and
Bobbi Sumpter.
What's Up NextNext weekend, the Mountaineers return to Quinn Coliseum for their final regular season matches of the season. EOU will face Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon. There is a change in time for next weekend's contests as both will start at 6 p.m.
