Late Goal Defeats EOU

EUGENE, Ore. – With one minute and 15 seconds remaining in the second half, the Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team was called for a foul in the box, resulting in a Northwest Christian University penalty kick. The Beacons scored on the penalty kick and the Mountaineers were defeated, 1-0.
 
The Mountaineers and Beacons were tied at nine shots a piece on the game. EOU fired four shots on goal and recorded two saves on the game.
 
The Mountaineers looked to break onto the scoreboard early in the first half. Kaeliana De Vera fired a shot on Mackenzie Galick, who made the save to keep the game scoreless.
 
After the Mountaineers scoring chance, the Beacons received one of their own. Stevie Harrison fired a shot at Jessica Parker and Parker made the save keeping the game scoreless.
 
EOU's next scoring chance came off a corner kick. Sydney Nelson took a shot, which was saved by Galick. Seven seconds later, the Mountaineers had another scoring chance as Annie Konrad fired a shot on Galick, who made the save to keep the game scoreless. Four minutes later, Makensie Forsyth fired a shot but the shot sailed wide.
 
With five minutes to go before halftime, it looked as if the Beacons offense started to click. Karlie Mast recorded the first shot on goal but her shot went high. Two minutes later, teammate Michelle Giron took a shot and that shot also went high.
 
Right before halftime, Melyssa Weber continued Northwest Christian's offensive attack on the Mountaineers. Weber's shot on goal was saved by Parker to keep the game scoreless as they went to halftime.
 
Within the first five minutes of the second half, both teams had taken a shot. Northwest Christian's shot went high, while Shelby Tuckers' ended up wide of the goal. Four minutes after Tucker's shot, Maddi Cillay's went high and the game remained scoreless.
 
After an EOU corner kick, the Mountaineers looked to break the scoreless tie. Haley Hill fired a shot but the Beacons defenses blocked it and the game remained scoreless with 15 minutes to play in the second half.
 
Northwest Christian's Mishayla Bertelsen and Maddi Bartholomew both had good scoring chances for Northwest Christian. Both Beacons had headers that went wide of the goal to keep the game scoreless.
 
With six minutes remaining in the game, Cillay had the best scoring chance for the Mountaineers. Cillay had Galick out of position and fired a shot on goal, however, the Becaons defense came up big and recorded a team save. Twenty seconds later, De Vera fired her second shot of the game but it went high.
 
With one minute and 15 seconds remaining in the second half, the Mountaineers were called for a foul in the penalty box. This resulted in a penalty kick for Northwest Christian and Harrison took the kick, beating Parker and giving the Beacons a 1-0 lead.

Eastern Oregon  was eliminated from post-season possibilities with the loss.

The Mountaineers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25, when they travel to Salem, Ore. to face Corban University.
