EOU Knocks Off Knights

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team improved its conference winning streak to 26 straight games with an 86-53 victory over Warner Pacific College Saturday evening. The Mountaineers corralled 16 offensive rebounds in the victory and shot 45 percent from the floor.

Brittney Newcomb led the way for the Mountaineers scoring 27 points. Kassy Larson followed with 19 points and collected 10 rebounds.

EOU and Warner Pacific were locked into a tight contest early on in the game as both teams saw leads five minutes into the contest. EOU took a four point advantage, 10-6, on Newcomb's first three pointer of the half. However, the Knights answered right back and scored the next five points of the game and took an 11-10 lead.

With the game tied at 14 the Mountaineers went on a 9-0 run to take a nine point lead, 23-14. During the stretch, EOU saw Newcomb hit her second three pointer and Larson scored four points.

Eastern Oregon continued to add to its lead when it went on an 11-0 run over the Knights. With EOU ahead by nine, 29-20, another EOU scoring stretch was started by Newcomb's third three pointer of the half. After the three went in, Nikki Osborne was fouled and went to the line and converted one of two free throws. Nicole Redd capped off the 9-0 run with a three pointer putting EOU ahead 38-20.

The Knights continued to battle and slowly trimmed the Mountaineers led down to 11 points after a Lorena Torres three pointer. However, Eastern Oregon scored two more points and went into half leading the Knights, 43-30.

The Mountaineers opened up the second half on a 9-0 run that saw them grow its lead to 22 points, 52-30. EOU was led by Newcomb's five points to start the half. Eastern Oregon continued to attack the offensive glass and Larson grabbed her fourth offensive rebound in the game and put it in to put EOU ahead, 54-32.

Eastern Oregon continued to extend its lead in the half to 25 points, 70-45, after Maloree Moss made one of two free throws. The Mountaineers continued to hold a commanding lead and grew the lead to as many as 33 points. EOU came away with an 86-53 victory over Warner Pacific.

EOU held the Knights to shooting just 28 percent from the floor in the second half.

The Mountaineers return to action next Friday, Jan. 10 when they host College of Idaho. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
