Men's Basketball Weekly Notes: NCU and Corban

Scouting the Opponents
Northwest Christian

After earning its first Top 25 ranking in school history on Jan. 7, the Beacons of Northwest Christian have fallen out of the rankings this week. Northwest Christian enters this weekend with a record of 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the CCC. The Beacons have dropped its last three contests, which is currently the longest losing streak of the season for Northwest Christian. The Beacons are averaging 73.8 points per game and are shooting 45.3 percent from the field, while opponents are only scoring 69.0 points per game and shooting 42.4 percent. Austin Kuemper leads the Beacons in scoring as he averages 19.0 points per game. Northwest Christian has four players averaging in double-figures this season.
Corban
The Warriors of Corban University enter this weekend with a 6-10 record and 2-5 in conference play. The last time the Warriors stepped on the court they were defeated by Concordia, 83-73, on Jan. 11. The loss to Concordia was the fourth straight loss for Corban. The Warriors are averaging 72.2 points per game but are allowing opponents to outscore them by three points, 75.1. Corban is shooting 47.6 percent from the floor and holding its opponents to 46.2 percent. Jordan Carter leads the Warriors in scoring as he averages 16.3 points per game.

20/20 Game
In Eastern Oregon University's last non-conference game of the season, senior Kyllian Wood scored 28 points and collected 20 rebounds, in the 93-84 victory over Walla Walla. The 20 rebound game was the first for an EOU player since, Feb. 18, 2000.

Last Week
Last week the Mountaineers played two games and went 1-1 for the week. EOU won its last non-conference game against Walla Walla University, 93-84, on Tuesday evening  before falling to College of Idaho, 75-67, on Friday night. Against Walla Walla the Mountaineers shot 55 percent from the floor en route to the victory. Kyllian Wood paced the Mountaineers by scoring 28 points on 8-of-11 shooting and collecting 20 rebounds. Following Wood in scoring was Craig Tucker with 16 points. Kevin Attila and Trevor Phillips rounded out the double-figure scorers for EOU with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Friday night, The College of Idaho Yotes used a late second half push to pull away and defeat Eastern Oregon University on Friday evening at Quinn Coliseum. The Yotes outscored the Mountaineers 27-16 in the final nine minutes to come away with a 75-67 victory over EOU. Demetrius Perkins of College of Idaho led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Trevor Phillips led the Mountaineers with 14 points.

Block Party
The Mountaineers are third in the nation in total blocks (87) and blocks per game (5.1). EOU finds themselves only two blocks behind the NAIA leader, College of Idaho, who has 89 blocks on the season.

Last Games Against NCU and Corban
The last time the Mountaineers faced Northwest Christian and Corban came near the end of the 2012-13 season. The Mountaineers came away with two victories on Feb. 1 and 2. EOU defeated Corban 69-54 and the next day were victorious over Northwest Christian 77-55.
