Men Finish Conference With Win Over Concordia

Portland, Ore.- The No. 3 Eastern Oregon men's basketball team came away with a 61-45 victory over Concordia in tonight's Cascade Collegiate Conference match up. The win marks the twenty-seventh win this season, the most wins by any EOU men's basketball team in school history.
 
With tonight's game being the last regular season conference game Eastern Oregon (27-3, 15-3 CCC) and Warner Pacific were crowned the Co-Champions of the CCC. EOU  will enter the CCC tournament as the #2 seed as WP takes the #1 seed, winning the tie break over the Mountaineers.
 
“I'm proud of our guys for what they have accomplished so far,” Coach Williams stated. “This is a special group of young men and I'm hopeful that the best is still to come.”
 
In tonight's contest Senior Cody Thurmond led eastern with 18 points. Trent Roos finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds, while Anthony Brown had a huge game recording a double-double with 13 points and a game-high17 rebounds.
 
Concordia was led by Adam Herman with 16 points and 4 rebounds while teammate Anthony Holton added 13 points 3 rebounds.
 
The Mountaineers started off slow in the first half as Concordia would lead for the majority of the period. Eastern hung with the Cavaliers and only trailed by three, 22-25, in a low scoring half by both teams.
 
Eastern shot dismal 7-of-30 (27%) from the field in the first half and 2-of-14 (14%) from the three-point line, compared to Concordia who shot 11-of-30 (37%) from the field and 2-of-4 (50%) from behind the arc.
 
Midway through the second half things were looking rough for EOU as they trailed 32-39. However, the Mountaineers battled back to tie the game at 42 a piece with just over five minutes to play. Eastern's offense then exploded, as they would go on a 21-3 run to end the game, 63-45.
 
The Mountaineers finished shooting 16-of-46 (35%) from the field and 4-of-17 (24%) from behind the arc, while the Cavs shot19-of-61 (31%) from the field and 2-of-10 (20%) from behind the three-point line.
 
Eastern will host a first round Cascade Collegiate Conference game at home Wednesday, Feb. 20 vs. the #7 seed Oregon Tech. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at EOUsports.com
