Eackles leads EOU Past Multnomah

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team used a hot shooting first half to build a 28 point halftime lead and never looked back as they defeated Multnomah, 121-89. The Mountaineers shot 64 percent from the floor in the first half.

Tony Eackles Jr. led the Mountaineers in scoring with 31 points as he shot 13-of-20 from the floor. Kyllian Wood followed with 15 points and 15 rebounds, for his second double double of the season for Eastern Oregon.

EOU opened the game by scoring the first 14 points and never looked back against the Lions. Eastern Oregon held Multnomah scoreless for the first three and a half minutes of the contest. EOU continued to dominate and build its lead to 20, 24-4, seven minutes into the contest.

Eastern Oregon continued to build its lead and grew the lead to as many as 35 points, 74-39, after an old fashion three point-play by Deonta Edwards. The Lions started to make little run and cut the lead down to 28 points, 75-47, to go into halftime.

Eastern Oregon's shooting cooled in the second half but EOU continued to dominate the game, as they extended the lead back to 34 points, 91-57, after a Brady Barrett jumper.

The Mountaineers continued to hold a big lead and did not let Multnomah back into the game. With 6:46 left in the game, EOU grew its lead to 37 points after Edwards hit a pair of free throws.

The Lions mounted a little comeback which cut the lead down to 32 points, 121-89, which is the score the Mountaineers would win by.

For the game the Mountaineers shot 57.1 percent from the floor. For the second straight contest the Mountaineers hit 10 plus three pointers.

EOU returns to action next Friday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Caldwell, Idaho to face Walla Walla University in the Golden Rule Shootout.
