Volleyball Falls to Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University volleyball team was defeated by Southern Oregon, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-23) on Friday night.

Stefani Sorensen led the way for the Mountaineers with 15 kills. Taylor Stewart recorded 16 digs and Karly stack dished out 32 assists for EOU.

EOU fell down early to SOU in the first set. With Eastern Oregon trailing, 6-3, the Mountaineers battled back to take a, 9-8, lead over the Raiders. However, the lead for Eastern Oregon was shorted lived as Southern Oregon bounced right back to take a, 13-11, lead.

Eastern Oregon took the lead one more time in set one, 17-16, before Southern Oregon took the first set over. With EOU ahead by one, 17-16, the Raiders scored the next five points to take a 21-17 lead. Southern Oregon never looked back and took set one, 25-20.

The Mountaineers looked to be turning things around in the second set, but the Raiders battled and kept everything close in the second set. With the score tied at 4-4, Southern Oregon took the lead and never looked back. EOU tried to battle back in the set but would only get as close as four, 12-8, for the reminder of the set. The Raiders came away with a, 25-19 second set victory.

The Raiders jumped out to a quick, 7-4, lead in the third set. Eastern Oregon started to mount its comeback and found themselves down, 10-9, after a Casey Loper kill. However, the Raiders started to pull way after Loper's kill and took an 15-11 lead.

Southern Oregon continued to battle and grew the lead to five, 17-12. However, Eastern Oregon still had some fight in them as the Mountaineers scored the next six points to take an, 18-17, lead over the Raiders. However, Southern Oregon answered right back and took the lead and never looked back as they took set three, 25-23, to sweep the No. 10 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers.

EOU returns to action Saturday, Nov. 2 when they play at Oregon Tech. The match starts at 7 p.m.
