Royals Down Mountaineers

REDDING, Calif. – The Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers women's basketball team struggled shooting the ball in their first game of the Simpson Classic as they shot 27 percent from the floor and were defeated, 83-50, by Hope International University Friday evening.
 
Nyesha Joseph led the way EOU with nine points and ten rebounds in the contest. Nicole Redd followed with eight points.
 
Eastern Oregon struggled from the start, as the Mountaineers missed its first two shots of the contest. On Hope Internationals first trip down Brittany Bauman hit a three pointer giving the Royals a 3-0 lead. After taking the lead, Hope International held the lead for the remainder of the contest.
 
Trailing 8-2, EOU started to make a small comeback and trimmed the Royals lead to five points, 10-5. However, Hope International went on a 22-4 run and took a 32-9 lead over the Mountaineers. EOU continued to battle but Hope International took a 20, 43-23, lead into halftime.
 
Eastern Oregon trimmed the Royals lead to 17 points, after a Taylor Riley free throw and a jumper by Redd, but the Royals had an answer. The Royals went on a 20-2 run extending its lead to 35 points, 63-28.
 
The Mountaineers trimmed the lead down to 25 points, 65-40, after a pair of free throws by Payton Parrish. However, the Royals extended its lead back to 37 points, 80-43, three minutes later. EOU had no answer for Hope International and were defeated, 83-50.
 
The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow when they play host Simpson University at 7:30 p.m.
