The Mountaineers did not get off to the start they wanted as the Deacons pulled ahead early in the contest, starting out on a 7-2 run and forcing the Mountaineers into a timeout. New Hope Christian continued to play well in the first half and extended its lead to seven points, 11-4, with 13 minutes before halftime.

The Mountaineers started to battle back and trimmed the lead to four, 16-15, with just under six minutes until halftime. That would be as close as EOU would get in the first half and went into halftime trailing, 31-25.

Eastern Oregon battled back and cut the Deacons lead to three points after a pair of free throws by Trevor Phillips. New Hope Christian extended its lead back to five points, 34-29, after a jumper by Kainoa Petersen. However, the Mountaineers answered right back with back to back three pointers by Phillips and Tucker to give EOU a one point lead, 35-34.

The Mountaineers continued to lead by ten points for the remainder of the game and never let the Deacons back into the game and defeated New Hope Christian, 68-57.

EOU returns to action next Friday when they play Carroll College in the Quinn Classic at 7:30 p.m.
