Preseason CCC
The Eastern Oregon University Men's Basketball team was picked to finish fifth in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, according to a preseason poll of the league's 10 head coaches. EOU comes in at fifth in the voting with 60 points. Eastern Oregon is coming off a season which they were 28-5, the most wins in one season in program history.
Leading EOU
The 2013-14 Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team will have a different look to them this year as former player,
Jared Barrett, returns to his alma mater as the head coach. Barrett comes to EOU after spending the past year as an Assistant Coach with Southern Utah University
Breaking Down the Roster
EOU returns nine players from last year's squad returners include: seniors,
Craig Tucker,
Michael Crane,
Kyllian Wood and
Tony Eackles Jr. Also returning are red-shirt sophomores
Kalvin Johanson and
Derek Maloney.
Stuart Bartoldus,
Tyler Dungannon and
Michael Hillman all return this year as red-shirt freshmen. Crane is redshirting this season. EOU has eight newcomers to the team, six transfers and two freshmen. Transfers include: Keven Attila (Hawaii Pacific),
Deonta Edwards (Washington State), Dabrial Henton (Yakima Valley CC),
Tavin Hurley (Humboldt State),
Trevor Phillips (Chemeketa CC) and
Mac Stannard (Walla Walla CC). The two freshmen are
Brady Barrett (Canyon View HS) and
Austin Strock (West Valley HS).
Recapping the 2012-13 Season
Eastern Oregon is coming off its most successful season in school history as the Mountaineers went 28-5 overall and 15-3 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. EOU spent five weeks as the No. 1 team in the nation last year, which was the first time in school history the program, had been ranked No. 1. The Mountaineers advanced to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship for the sixth straight year last year and went in as the sixth seed overall. However, the Mountaineers season came to an end in the first round of the national championship as they were eliminated by Midland (Neb.), 77-53. EOU finished ranked tied for 20th in the nation.
