Box Score OLYMPIA, Wash. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University Volleyball team extended its winning streak to 14 straight games with a sweep, 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22), of The Evergreen State College on Friday night.
Casey Loper led the way for the Mountaineers (20-2, 10-0 CCC) victory as she recorded a game-high 18 kills and collected a hitting percentage of .500 for the match.
Stefani Sorensen followed with 12 kills.
Karly Stack dished out a game-high 37 assists.
"Tonight we did a good job offensively of putting the ball away," said head coach Kaki Morehead. "We had some consistency issues and we hope to rectify that tomorrow."
The Geoducks scored the first point of the match but EOU answered back strong by scoring the next five points. After taking the lead in set one, the Mountaineers did not look back and continued to add to the lead.
With Eastern Oregon ahead by three points, 16-13, the Mountaineers went on a 5-1 run to extend its lead to seven points, 21-14. Evergreen could not get any closer and EOU came away with a 25-17 set one victory.
The second set was a highly contested set as neither team held a lead larger than two points for the first 16 points of the set. EOU held a 9-7 lead and began to slowly build its lead, as the Mountaineers grew its lead to five, 15-10, after a Cassidy Watkins attack error.
With Eastern Oregon holding a 19-15 lead, the Geoducks started to mount a comeback. Evergreen cut the lead to one point, 22-21, before EOU put the match away. EOU scored the last three points of the set two take set two, 25-21, and a 2-0 match lead.
The Mountaineers and Geoducks was a back and forth third set as after the first 20 points were scored the match was tied at 10. The set continued to stay close as neither team held a lead over one point until EOU took a 22-20. In the set the score was tied 18 times. The Geoducks continued to keep the set close but EOU was too strong and came away with a 25-22 victory.
EOU returns to action tomorrow when they face Northwest at 7 p.m. in Kirkland, Washington.
