Volleyball Weekly Notes: Eighth Edition

EOU Volleyball keeps making school history. The Mountaineers came in at No. 10 in the fifth edition of the Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, which was announced Tuesday. This is the highest ranking in school history for the volleyball program. Coming into the season, the highest the Mountaineers had been ranked was No. 19.

CCC Player of the Week
Junior Casey Loper was named CCC Red Lion Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Loper helped the Mountaineers to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Warner Pacific and No. 19 Concordia. In both contests, Loper led the Mountaineers in kills. She recorded 35 kills, four aces and a hitting percentage of .424 for the week. Against Warner Pacific on Friday night, Loper recorded 16 kills on 22 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .682. In the NAIA Match of the Week against No. 19 Concordia, Loper recorded a game-high 19 kills. Her last two kills were the most critical kills of the night for EOU. Down, 14-13, in set five, Loper recorded her 18th kill to tie the set at 14. Loper's 19th kill of the night was the match clincher giving EOU the fifth set, 16-14, and extending the Mountaineers winning streak to 13 straight contests.

Recap of the NAIA Match of the Week
Last Saturday, EOU and Concordia, played in the NAIA Match of the Week. The Mountaineers came away with a 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 28-26, 20-25, 16-14) victory. Casey Loper led the way for Eastern Oregon as she recorded a game-high 19 kills. Stefani Sorensen and Taylor Stewart followed with 18 kills apiece. EOU was down in set five, 14-13, before Loper tied the match at 14 with her 18th kill. With EOU ahead 15-14, Loper connected on her 19th kill to claim the set and match for the Mountaineers.

Winning Streak
EOU is currently on a 13 game winning streak. The winning streak started when the Mountaineers were talking place in the Embry-Riddle Labor Day Tournament.

Previous Meetings this Season
The Mountaineers have played Evergreen and Northwest once this season already. Both of the teams made the trip to La Grande. The Mountaineers came away with a, 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-19) and a, 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) over Northwest.
