No. 8 EOU Wins Road Game at C of I

Caldwell, Idaho – The No. 8 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team (18-2, 9-0 CCC) defeated College of Idaho (11-6, 7-2 CCC) tonight 57-53 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup.
 
Eastern was led by Brooke Randall with 21 points and 3 assists. Kelsea Hurliman and Jorie Freeman finished with 13 and 9 points respectively.
 
Felicity Jones led College of Idaho with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Laura Geis contributed with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Chakala Carthen added 8 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Randall led the way for the Mountaineers in the first half with 13 points shooting 4-of-8 from the field. Eastern opened the game with back to back threes by Randall and Hurliman, followed by a couple of lay-ins to give Eastern a 8-1 lead. EOU then gained its largest lead of 12 points after a basket by Taylor Riley midway through the half. Felicity Jones would then hit back to back jumpers and spark C of I as they cut the lead to one just before the half sending Eastern to the locker room up, 25-24.
 
As a team EOU shot 41% (9-of-22) from the field and 36% (4-of-11) from behind the arc in the first half. C of I 29% (8-of-28) from the field and 10% (1-of-10) from behind the three point line.
 
The Yotes came out and were the first to score in the second half, but the Mountaineers answered with a couple of quick jumpers by Randall and Bourn to go on a 7-0 run, 34-27 forcing C of I to a timeout. Hurliman came out of the time out and hit a three to open the lead to 10.  The Yotes then battled back to take a one point lead after a three by Jones. Both teams would then exchange points as the game saw 6 different lead changes and 3 ties. A lay-in by Freeman with 1:05 left in the game gave EOU a 2 point lead. The lead forced C of I to foul with 9 seconds left where Hurliman connected making both free throws. The Yotes would then come up short on a three point shot and the Mountaineers held on for the win.
 
Eastern finished the game shooting 44% (20-of-45) from the field and 36% (7-of-19) from downtown, as C of I shot 31% (20-of-63) from the field and just 12% (2-of-16) from behind the three point line.
