Best Start In School History A Perfect 10-0

La Grande, Ore. - The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team is off to their best start in school history starting the season a perfect 10-0 with a win over WallaWalla University tonight, 82-57.

The Mountaineers' (10-0, 0-0 CCC) came out of the gates cold tonight shooting just 35%, (11-32) from the field in the first half.

Walla Walla (0-11) would come out and take commanding 16 point lead with 12:34 on the clock in the first half. EOU would finally reach double digits with 9:58 after a jumper by senior Jason Mumm.

Back to back steals that led to a basket and a dunk by junior transfer Tony Eackles Jr. would spark an EOU run to cut Walla Walla's lead to 5 with 6:38 left in the half.

With 1:20 to play in the first half, Robert Barrington pulled down an offensive rebound and scored while drawing the foul which put the Mountaineers' within three. On the ensuing possession for EOU senior Trent Roos hit a three pointer that tied the game at 33.

The Wolves' would then miss the front end of an one-and-one which gave EOU the last possession of the half. This time, Eackles Jr. found an open Michael Crane in the corner for a three pointer that would put EOU up, 36-33 at half.

On their first two possessions of the second half Eastern would score which set the tone for the rest of the half.

With 9:35 left in the game EOU would blow the game wide open with a surge of threes giving them a 21 point lead, 69-48. The Mountaineers' would eventually lead by as much as 29 points with 3:33 to play.

EOU shot 45% from the field on the night, connecting on 15 of 29 from behind the arc. Walla Walla shot 38% from the field hitting 5 of 14 behind the arc.

Head coach Isaac Williams stated after the game, "We understand that our team can only be judged by where we end up at the end of the season but I'm very proud of what they have been able accomplish so far. I love this team. They deserve whatever accolades they receive."

All Mountaineers' would see playing time tonight as Roos led EOU in scoring with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Mumm had 15 points and 8 rebounds.

WWU was led by Ryan Spady with 18 points and 6 rebounds, while teammates Tyreek Luckett and Miguel Martinez added 10 points apiece.

Eastern will travel to Tacoma, Wash. this weekend to play in the PLU Thanksgiving Classic. Their first matchup will be against  the University of Puget Sound  Friday at 6 p.m. and then Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday  at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at EOUsports.com
