Ashland, Ore. – The Mountaineers couldn't stop Southern Oregon University Saturday afternoon as they lost, 22-68.
EOU (2-3) had no answer for the Raiders potent offense as the Raiders (3-2) poured points on the scoreboard early and often.
Southern scored a touchdown on all three of their first quarter possessions and kept the Mountaineers scoreless to take a 21-0 lead into the second.
EOU would start the second quarter with the ball and score, after an SOU interference call placed the ball on SOU 18.
Jason Simonis then found an opening and rushed for a touchdown with 14:47 to play in the second.
The Raiders would go on a run and score four more touchdowns and a field goal to end the half, 7-51.
SOU picked up where they left off and scored on their first possession of the third. EOU came right back with a touchdown of their own. Simonis found
Kedrick Starr for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 6:08 to play in the third. After three quarters the score was 61-14.
The game was all but over heading into the fourth. Late in the game,
Ray Walser connected with
Justin Reynolds for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 00:07 on the clock.
Simonis completed 22-of- 34 attempts for 224 yards. He had one rushing touchdown and two interceptions. Kendrick Starr had 5 receptions on the day for 91 yards and one touchdown.
Justin Reynolds had 6 receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Howard McDonald recorded game high 14 tackles.
Southern had a total of 706 yards, 611 coming from passing. The Raiders Austin Dodge threw for 5 touchdowns and completed 23- of -30 for 468 yards.
The Mountaineers next home game is Saturday, October 13
