Box Score La Grande, Ore. - The No. 9 ranked Eastern Oregon men's basketball team defeated New Hope Christian once again Saturday night at Quinn Coliseum, 93-82.
The Mountaineers were led by seniors
Anthony Brown and
Trent Roos, scoring 25 and 21 points respectively. Brown, performed flawlessly in the fist half shooting 6-6 from the field, five of those coming from behind the arc.
In the first half the Mountaineers (4-0, 0-0 CCC) shot the ball extremely well, shooting 20-29 (69%) from the field and a remarkable 10-14 (71%) from downtown. Junior transfer
JD Esters, guided the Mountaineer offense dishing out 8 assists in the first half and 11 for the game.
The Deacons (0-2) won the rebound battle in the first half outrebounding the Mountaineers 17-14 and forcing 9 turnovers. Fortunately enough, the Mountaineers potent offense led to an 11-point halftime lead, 55-44.
“While we have plenty of room for improvement, I'm excited about the potential of this group of guys”, said head coach Isaac Williams. “We were challenged by a very talented New Hope team but through the good and the bad our guys stuck together and play like a team.”
In the second half the Mountaineers cooled down from the field, shooting 17-38 from the field and 4 of 12 from behind the arc. EOU went on a run mid-way through the second extending their lead by to 24 with 9:01 to play.
The Deacons counteracted with a late game run of their own, but it was too little too late. The Mountaineers would go on to win the game by 11, 93-82.
EOU dominated the glass in the second half outrebounding the Deacons 28-12, 45-26 for the game.
The Deacons were led by Tarance Glyn with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Drew Wiley added 13 points and 5 rebounds.
