Box Score La Grande, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon Men's Basketball team defeated New Hope Christian College 80-67, in a physical game Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.
The Mountaineers (3-0, 0-0 CCC) were led by
Trent Roos who had 24 points on the night, 14 in the first half. Roos shot 7 of 14 from the field, hitting 2 of 4 from downtown.
Anthony Brown and
Tony Eackles Jr. both scored in double digits, as they had 18 and 16 respectively. Brown added 8 rebounds while Eackles grabbed 6 andeach had three steals.
Eastern came out in the first half with high energy and explosiveness, as 18 of their first half points were from fast breaks. With 15:18 to play in the first half EOU went on a 14-0 run to take a 24-6 lead. The Mountaineers led by as much as 23 in the first half and would go in at half up 50-29.
In the second half, EOU saw their 21-point halftime lead slowly dwindle down to four mid-way through the period. The Mountaineers regrouped and fought back to push the lead back to double digits, with a fast beak lay-up by Brown with 8:27 to play. EOU would hold onto a double-digit lead for the reminder of the game and win by a score of 80-67.
New Hope was lead by Tarance Glyn who had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Forest Stolk for the Deacons was one point shy of a double double, with 9 points and 13 boards.
EOU shot 47.5% as a team from the field, 45.8% from behind the arc and struggled from the charity stripe shooting 61.1%.
