EOU Knocks Off No.1 Team in Conference

La Grande. Ore. – The Eastern Oregon Volleyball team defeated College of Idaho in five sets, (16-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7) Friday night at Quinn Coliseum.
 
The Mountaineers ended a 36 match-losing streak to the Yotes, (16-5, 13-1 CCC) which dated back to October of 1996. 
 
Casey Loper and Stefani Sorensen led the attack for the Mountaineers (17-6, 10-4 CCC) with 16 and 15 kills respectively. Loper, also added 11 digs on the night.
 
After a rough first set in which the Mountaineers lost 16-25, they battled back and won the second set 25-22. The second set went back and forth as there was 10 ties scores and 5 lead changes.
 
The teams would split the next two sets. C of I would take game three 25-22, leaving the Mountaineers in a must win game 4. EOU pulled together and won an intense game four, 25-22.
 
In the fifth set the Mountaineers got off to a great start and played consistent throughout. EOU took a early lead and never looked back, as they would knock off the No. 1 team in the conference in the final game 15-7.
 
“Tonight was a great night for mountie volleyball. We not only accomplished our goals but we played the high level of mountie volleyball that we have been meaning to play and have had the potential to play all season” said Head Coach Kaki Morehead.
 
Karly Stack initiated the offense for the Mountaineers with  44 assists and Kaitlyn Duncan guided the Mountaineer defense with a game high 24 digs.
 
Eastern will look to increase their five game win streak tuesday night as they host Walla Walla. Match begins at 7 p.m. Live video and live stats are available on EOUSports.com.
