ASHLAND, Ore. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team remained atop the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with a 62-46 win at Southern Oregon University Saturday.
The Mountaineers (16-4, 8-2 Cascade Conference) have a half-game advantage over Corban University for the CCC lead after the win. EOU led by as many as 21 points in the game, and completed a regular season sweep over Southern.
Brooke Randall led Eastern with 17 points. The junior was 3-of-11 from the field, but 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Korrie Bourn added 14 points, making four of her five shots from the field.
Kyle Miller and
Chayla Jones each grabbed seven rebounds.
Kelsea Hurliman threw a team-high three assists.
The Mountaineers were 31 percent from the field and 6-of-25 from behind the arc. EOU made five its 12 three-pointers in the first half, but only one of its 13 in the second half. Eastern finished 26-for-33 from the free-throw line, making 20 of its 22 attempts in the second half.
The game featured four ties and one lead change as the Raiders grabbed the lead to begin the game, 3-0, but it was EOU that responded with a run midway through the first half. With the score tied at 10, the Mountaineers went on an 8-0 run, to take an 18-10 lead with 6:45 remaining in the first half.
Eastern improved to 12-1 when leading at halftime, as it had a 29-18 halftime advantage. EOU grabbed its largest lead of the game, 46-25, after a pair of free throws from
Vintea Georges with 13:02 left in regulation. SOU came within 13 points three times before the final score was decided.
The Mountaineers' bench has yet to be outscored by an opponents' bench this season. Saturday, EOU had a 20-12 advantage. Eastern was outscored in the paint, 20-14, but had a 17-15 points off of turnovers advantage. EOU outrebounded Southern, 44-32, and forced 24 turnovers. The Mountaineers committed 22 turnovers.
The Raiders (12-10, 3-8) were led by RaTanya Newsome's 15 points. She was 6-of-17 from the field. Angelica Cahee added 12 points. SOU was 33 percent from the field, 2-for-15 from three-point range, and 14-of-28 from the free-throw line.
Eastern travels to Klamath Falls Sunday for matchup with Oregon Tech (18-4, 7-3). The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but due to inclement weather it was moved to Sunday at 2 p.m. Live video and stats will be on EOUSports.com.
