LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Eastern Oregon University men's basketball team heads to Southern Oregon University and No. 2 Oregon Tech this weekend in battles to stay in the conference title hunt.

THE SERIES
* Southern Oregon holds a 95-76 lead in the all-time series over EOU.
* Saturday's game is the 172nd meeting will be the second-most against any other program for Eastern. EOU and Western Oregon have met 187 times.

ABOUT THE RAIDERS
Southern Oregon has won 13 of its first 20 games this season and sits tied with EOU for fourth place in the conference standings at the halfway point of the season. The Raiders are led by freshman phenom, Eric Thompson. He leads the conference in scoring averaging 20.15 points per game, and is second in rebounds with 7.8 a contest. Against his first meeting with Eastern earlier this season in La Grande, the freshman scored a game-high 23 points, with 19 coming in the first half. He is ninth in NAIA Div. 2 in free throw percentage (.850) and 13th in points per game. Jeff Bush is averaging 3.5 assists per contest. SOU is ninth in the nation in free-throw percentage (.739) and 13th in defensive rebounds per game (27.4).

ABOUT THE HUSTLIN OWLS
Oregon Tech enters the weekend one-win shy of being the first team in NAIA Div. 2 with 20 wins this season. The Owls sit atop the conference standings tied with Warner Pacific with an 8-1 conference mark. OIT has its highest ranking of the season after being moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 this week. Eastern Oregon faces another great freshman Sunday in Bobby Hunter. The guard leads the team with an average of 19.8 points and 2.5 steals per game. He is third in the nation in total steals with 53. The Owls take care of the ball extremely well and are second in the country in assist to turnover ratio. Tech's 379 total assists leads NAIA Div. 2. Oregon Tech is in the top 10 in 11 statistical categories in the country. David Clarke is third in the CCC with assists per game (4.62).
