GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team cruised past the University of Great Falls for its first win of the season Thursday, 6-2.
The Mountaineers (1-1) were powered by a hat trick from
Rachael Collins. The senior opened the scoring with a goal setup by an assist from
Emily Fadenrecht. Shortly later, Fadenrecht finished off an assist from
Kelli Jones for a goal of her own.
Great Falls would respond with back-to-back goals to even the score at 2-2. The high-scoring first half continued with a goal from
Erika Whitehurst, with a credited assist to
Sarah Milne. Whitehurst would help complete the first half scoring with an assist to
Mauriana Gonzalez.
Eastern led 4-2 to open the second half, when Collins would score her final two goals of the match. Her second goal was an unassisted effort into the back of net, while her third goal came from an assist from
Jordann Whitehurst.
EOU had 13 shots in the game and put 10 on goal, while the Argos took 12 shots and placed nine on the net. Eastern had seven corner kicks to Great Falls' two.
Chantal Schefers played the entirety of the game in the net for Eastern. The senior made seven saves in the match. Sherry Blaisdell made four saves for UGF (0-2).
The Mountaineers return to La Grande before heading to Nampa, Idaho for their next game against NCAA Div. 2 opponent, Northwest Nazarene University on Sept. 1.
