ASHLAND, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Southern Oregon University Monday.

The Raiders (10-5-1, 6-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference) remain in the hunt for the top spot in the conference standings with the victory.

The Raiders controlled the ball throughout the first half, outshooting the Mountaineers 11-0 in the opening period, but Chantal Schefers came up with three saves to help EOU (3-9-1, 1-5-1) maintain a scoreless tie at halftime.

Southern Oregon recorded the lone goal early in the second half, when Denise Powell dribbled away from a defender about 20 yards away from the goal and shot from the right side to put SOU up 1-0 in the 50th minute. The Raiders had chances to add to their lead and the Mountaineers had a couple shots at tying the score, but Powell's goal held up as the game-winner for SOU.

Schefers picked up seven saves in the match to go with the one goal allowed in 90 minutes of play. Jessica Kuehlwein went the distance in goal for the Raiders to earn the shutout, saving two shots on goal in the process.

The Mountaineers return home and host Corban University (9-6, 4-3) Saturday at 11 a.m. It is the final weekend of the regular season for EOU. Eastern welcomes Northwest Christian University Monday for Senior Day.
